Nigerians Embrace Trump’s Truth Social Following Twitter’s New Policy

Nigerians Flock to Truth Social as Twitter Implements Daily Tweet Restrictions

Following Twitter‘s announcement of restrictions on the number of tweets users can read in a day, a significant number of Nigerians have begun migrating to Truth Social as an alternative microblogging app.

Although Twitter has since reversed the policy, the migration to Truth Social has continued unabated.

Truth Social, founded by former U.S. President Donald Trump after being permanently banned from Twitter for alleged incitement of the Capitol building attack in January 2021, was initially not popular among Nigerians.

However, as Twitter users faced difficulties accessing the platform due to the imposed restrictions, Truth Social gained prominence.

Taking a jab at Twitter, Truth Social proudly proclaimed, “Reminder: On Truth Social, you can read and post as many truths as you want – all for free.”

Here are some reactions from Nigerians regarding their experiences with Truth Social:

@MissPearls tweeted, “My mentions on Truth Social are going wild already, even before I posted my first truth. So, that’s it; it’s either Twitter or Truth.”

@MrBlackOG remarked, “Truth Social has crashed due to a high number of Twitter refugees invading the app.”

@BOGbadams invited others, saying, “Join me on Truth Social. @bogbadamosi.”

However, @gimbakakanda cautioned, “Among all the social media platforms to adopt as an alternative to Twitter, you have chosen TRUTH Social, one founded by Donald Trump—an unabashed and documented promoter of far-right extremism. Trust me, you would be better off in Elon Musk’s prison than in Trump’s penthouse.”
