Dubai returnee allegedly beaten to death by policemen and vigilantes in Delta

A man who recently returned from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was allegedly killed by some policemen in Eburumede community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The father of four identified as Tammy Okubama was reportedly beaten to death by the police operatives attached to a Rain Oil Filling Station in collaboration with vigilantes in the early hours of August 25, 2023.
A younger brother to the deceased, Nathaniel Okubama explained that Tammy was killed and his body secretly deposited at a morgue.
“We are yet to get to the bottom of the case but he was supposedly killed by vigilantes and policemen who are yet to be identified,” he said.
Nathaniel explained that the family was notified of Tammy’s death by a staff at the morgue where his body was deposited.
“It was a staff at the Warri Central Hospital that called to inform us that his body was brought to the mortuary by some mobile policemen,” he added.
While the reason for the attack on the deceased is yet to be ascertained, the family suggests “it must have been a case of mistaken identity.”
Following the murder, members of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, shut down a Rainoil Filling Station in Ebrumede community, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The protesting youths also blocked a section of the Udu Express Road on Monday.
The protest was led by the IYC President, Jonathan Lokpobiri, accompanied by other national officers as well as the Speaker of the Mobile Parliament, Igetei, Western Zone Chairman, Doubra Okotete, amongst others.
Meanwhile, the family of the victim has demanded justice.
In a petition through C.I. Anyaduba Consults, the family called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police to unravel the truth behind Tammy’s murder.
