Dotun’s Ex-Wife and Dbanj’s Sister Convicted of Contempt
In a recent divorce case, tensions between popular On-Air Personality Dotun Kayode and his ex-wife, Taiwo Oyebanjo, who is also the sister of renowned pop star Dapo ‘D’banj’ Oyebanjo, continue to escalate. Taiwo Oyebanjo was found guilty of contempt of court in a divorce petition she filed in Abuja.
The High Court in Dukpa, Abuja, declared Taiwo Oyebanjo in violation of the court’s order regarding the shared custody of the couple’s children. The court had initially granted shared custody of the kids to Dotun and his estranged wife in suit No. GWD/ PET/25/21, following Dotun’s application in April 2022, which both parties initially adhered to.
However, Taiwo denied Dotun access to their children without valid reason since December 2022, contravening the court’s order. This led to a legal process initiated by Dotun and a subsequent heated exchange between the couple on social media.
The court found Taiwo Oyebanjo guilty of disobeying its order, deeming her actions a breach of the court’s order. As a result, she was ordered to pay a fine of N200,000 within 30 days or risk imprisonment until the fine is settled.
During the proceedings, there was a minor drama when Taiwo’s lawyers attempted to withdraw their representation on her behalf. The case has been adjourned to December 11th for trial.
Reports suggest that Taiwo, who was absent in court, allegedly flew the children out of Nigeria in June 2023, raising questions about compliance with court orders. We will continue to monitor developments in this case and report on any updates.”
