Funke Akindele recounts her Yoruba Industry Journey (video)

Nollywood actress and Box Office King, Funke Akindele has no doubt come a long way in the industry as she recounted how her colleagues, Iyabo Ojo and Sikiratu Sindodo helped her up the ladder.

In an interview with media personality, Toke Makinwa for her podcast, Toke Moments, Funke Akindele opened up on how Iyabo and Sikiratu fought for her in the Yoruba industry, during her early career days.

According to her, she was being stereotyped because of her physical appearance which many considered ‘ugly’, and was only cast for Waka pass roles.

Funke recounted how she broke down in tears in a toilet after being deceived with a lead role in a movie, whereas, it was only a Waka pass role.

Luckily for her, Sikiratu Sindodo and Iyabo Ojo stood up and fought the producers for looking down on her. Iyabo even went as far as treating her to eatery foods, anytime she was rejected on set.

“I remember people telling me that I am not fine, I don’t have nyash or breast. I remember crying, a whole lot of times, I would cry and break down. Go to the bathroom and cry.

I remember one Yoruba movie, I thought I was going to be given a lead role after my appearance on I Need To Know, but I was only given a Waka pass role after promising me I would be among the lead girls.

I went to the toilet and cried and Sikiratu Sindodo, God will bless her, came to the toilet to comfort me. We went to meet the producers to fight for me, telling them that I am a star and I am in the movie, ‘I Need To Know’.

Iyabo Ojo would also fight for me and would vow to never speak with any producer if they don’t cast me. After fighting for me, she will take me to Sweet Sensation to eat”.

Recall that Funke Akindele and Iyabo Ojo once fell out and were at loggerheads for years now.

Iyabo Ojo had dragged Funke Akindele when a blogger criticized Toyin Abraham’s movie, The Ghost and The Tout.

Also, on the 9th of December 2021 when Eniola Badmus celebrated her 20 years in Nollywood, and Funke Akindele didn’t show up, Iyabo Ojo threw a subtle shade at her.

There were speculations that Funke Akindele shunned the event to avoid any drama with Iyabo Ojo and Toyin Abraham following their long-time beef.

In a lengthy post shared on her Instagram page, Iyabo Ojo said there had been rumors that someone she once helped in and outside the Nollywood industry finds great joy in constantly stabbing her and tried her best to destroy her.

Iyabo Ojo added that Funke Akindele should stop forming class or disassociating herself from certain people and avoid bringing people together only when needed.

Although Iyabo Ojo didn’t mention Funke Akindele’s name in the post, many netizens claimed the post was directed to Funke following her absence at Eniola’s party.

However, Iyabo Ojo and Funke Akindele put their beef aside by embracing and exchanging pecks at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award season 8 in 2022.

Funke Akindele embraced Iyabo Ojo after she stepped on stage to accept the award for her movie, Omo Ghetto the saga which was announced by the latter.
