UITH Doctors Successfully Operated on a 13-yr-old Boy With Throat Tumor

At the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Emmanuel Nwafor, a 13-year-old kid, underwent a successful surgical procedure after being diagnosed with a nasopharyngeal tumor, a likely cancerous growth.

Emmanuel, whose father passed away when he was only three years old, underwent surgery at UITH on Friday, and the sample that was taken out of his body was sent to the hospital’s pathology department for additional analysis.

Dr. Misitura Lawal-Arowona, the creator of the Foundation for Advocacy and Sensitization on Tuberculosis (FAST), declared on Monday that her organization would cover the cost of Emmanuel’s surgery.

The medical bill was swiftly paid by the Foundation, which made it possible to undertake the surgery on Friday.

The Foundation paid Emmanuel and his family a visit on Saturday as part of their follow-up care at their home in the Oko Erin neighborhood of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Dr. Misitura Lawal-Arowona, the creator of FAST, praised the UITH surgeons for their work and conveyed her happiness over the successful outcome of the procedure.

She bemoaned the fact that so many people who may have contributed to the advancement of civilization had died as a result of inadequate care for patients with both minor and serious illnesses.

Lawal-Arowona, an instructor at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology in Aliero’s Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, gave Emmanuel and his family additional assurances on the Foundation’s ongoing support.

In response, Emmanuel Nwafor expressed gratitude to the Foundation for saving his life and giving him hope, emphasizing that,

“I would like to become a medical doctor when I grow up so that I will be able to assist the less privileged, especially, the people who don’t have good health and can’t afford to settle their hospital bills.”

Emmanuel’s mother, who is a practicing journalist, Madam Ndidi Nwafor, expressed appreciation to the Foundation, adding,

“Since the demise of my husband about 10 years ago, I have been shouldering the burdens of the needs and wellbeing of the family alone. I have three kids and it has not been easy, but I thank God that assistance came to us through your Foundation.

“May God never put you to shame in life. This matter has really gotten me devastated and confused, but now, I am relieved and thankful to God,” she added.
