How to honeymoon on a budget

0

Customarily, after getting married, the newly weds normally go on a honeymoon to celebrate getting married and starting a new life together, as one.

That said, it makes sense to go on the honeymoon after getting married, not before. While some couples choose to do a trip immediately after, others, prefer to wait till the time and finances allow. A honeymoon can be any sort of holiday, whatever tickles your fancy as a couple. Of course, most of us choose to travel cause travel is therapeutic. Unfortunately, traveling is not cheap. You need to have good money to enjoy at least a one week holiday. So, if you’re a couple on a budget, how do you plan an affordable honeymoon? We will school you.

1. Instead of asking for gifts, ask for cash on your wedding day.

Do away with the gifts, after all, knowing Kenyans, you will end up receiving 5 similar sets of cups and glasses. Use the money you receive to plan a honeymoon.

2. Travel during low season.

If you’re on a budget, you can wait. If you get married during high season like June-October, you could plan your honeymoon for around February the next year and even merge it with Valentine’s Day. During the low season, flights and hotels are cheaper due to a decrease in demand so you can definitely take advantage of that.

3. Consider cheaper destinations.

You can’t go to Paris, with Lamu budget. I mean…that wouldn’t make sense right? So stay in your lane and do something you can afford without struggling too hard. You don’t always have to go out of the country. In fact, you can be a tourist in your own country. Think of some nice place that you can drive to and spend a few days together, be it a lodge or even something like hiking a mountain if you’re both into outdoor adventures.

4. Take advantage of deals.

There are deals everywhere, hotel deals, flight deals, honeymoon deals, flying miles…check all the deals available before making your bookings. It would be wise to solicit the services of a travel agent as most of them get to know about the deals and are best places to plan a fantastic unforgettable trip for you, with your budget.

5. Take an all inclusive holiday package.

If you book different holidays haphazardly, you will end up spending so much more. Instead, go for an all inclusive package; something like a summer cruise or say Dubai for 5 days with meals and accommodation included. That way, you don’t have to worry about having to pay so much extra for meals or a place to sleep. If you think about it, all inclusive deals end up being way cheaper.

6. Take a minimoon.

If you’re not doing well financially, take a minimoon – this is basically a small holiday to relax and celebrate. You could even have a staycation at one of the local hotels, have a glass of champagne, enjoy each other’s company and then when you’re at a good place financially, you can take your much deserved honeymoon.

7. Tell people wherever you go that you’re on a honeymoon.

People love honeymooners. Don’t forget to mention to the waiters, .s etc that you’re on your honeymoon, you might be lucky to get honeymooner freebies.
