Giving Up On You Should Never Have Been An Option

When we first met you had everything going for you, a nice job, a comfortable apartment, a really nice car. But that wasn’t why I fell in love with you, I fell in love with you because you loved me when I had nothing to offer. I know now giving up on you should never have been an option.

You tried everything to make me stay, you told me you would fight with me to the end. I really wanted to believe you, but the pressure from your family was too much. In the end, I gave in and started believing them, I truly started thinking I was bad for you, now I see how silly I sound.

Giving up on you was never an easy decision, it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do in my entire life. But I convinced myself that it was the right thing to do. I told myself we couldn’t know better than your mother and she had your best interest at heart.

I was wrong! All she wanted was a lady with a better pedigree and she used God to blackmail me. I know I still harbour a lot of anger against your mother, for that I am sorry. Every time I see you I blame her all over again. She told us if I stayed with you, you would never be great. She said she had seen the future and God had shown her all the obstacles. God told her I was going to destroy your destiny, she said.

I fell for it hook line and sinker. You did everything to convince me she was wrong, but I loved you too much. I just couldn’t be the reason you become nothing, so I left. When you kept insisting, I got married to the next available man.

He’s a wonderful husband and a good father, he has been nothing but good to me and I love him. But he is not you and he will never be you, for that, I will always be sorry. I’m a mature enough Christian now to see what she did, I know now that it was all a lie, but it’s too late. I miss you so much Dozie, giving up on our love should never have been an option.
