Kotangora emir’s stool: Niger gov redeploys commissioner over contenders’ complaints

The Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello, has redeployed the Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, who was indicted in a petition relating to the vacant stool of the Kotangora Emirate throne.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Niger state, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the petition was signed by the 46 other contestants of the vacant stool.

Matane stated that the mandate given to the ministry to conduct a transparent and accountable election of the new Sarkin Sudan, which took place on September 19, 2021, was followed by petition and misgivings.

The statement read in part, “Therefore, to reinforce the State Government’s neutrality in the election process, a review of the process has been directed by Mr Governor.

“In this regard, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, has been temporarily moved to Ministry of Youth Development.

“Similarly, Mr Emmanuel Umar, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth Development, has been temporarily redeployed to Ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs.”

It added that the redeployment would take immediate effect.
